Lots of work over the last 2 weeks! I have been trying to determine the Shackelford Lineage. Rather than list the entire lineage, I will just start from Patience Benthall who was William Sanders' wife (and William is our 4th g-grandfather on Mom's side).
Patience's parents were Reuben Benthall and Sarah Wade. Sarah Wade's parents were Robert Wade and Mary Shackelford. Mary's parents were John Shackelford and Ann Livingston. John's parents were Roger Shackelford and (most likely) Mary Palmer. And Roger Shackelford is an Original Immigrant! He arrived in Virginia sometime between 1655 and 1657.
To learn all of this, I created a new Research Document - RD-017-01 Shackelford Lineage. It's 91 pages long! But the important part is the last page, where I list my summary. I also added lots of new Sources (734 to 882). Sources 736 to 879 are copies of a family genealogy newsletter called "The Shackelford Clan Magazine" and there are 144 issues of it from early 1945 to 1957 (yes, I read them all!). Rather than copy them on this website, I just put up a link to the original website where I found them. If that site ever disappears though, I have Word versions of all of the newsletter.
I also had to update my version of FT-066 Reuben Benthall - Sarah Wade family from version 01 to 02, to add some of the information I learned about Sarah's parents.
It was interesting to learn that one of our direct ancestors (John Shackelford) owned a huge piece of land on the Outer Banks of North Carolina that is still known as Shackelford Banks today. You can learn about this land at https://beaufortartist.blogspot.com/2013/04/the-man-and-family-behind-shackelfords.html. It's a pretty interesting story.
I am a little burned out after writing this 91 page document, so updates may be a little slow for a bit. I have some work to do that is going to be pretty tedious, and I don't expect a lot of rapid progress soon. Also, you will notice that I am slowly changing some of my documents from MS Word versions to Adobe pdf versions. I am beginning to see my documents show up in web searches, and while I don't mind people using them, I don't want people to use them without acknowledging who did the work! So you will also begin to see my name and email listed as the author of these documents. At any rate, enjoy! John
Still working on the Benthalls which go up the Wilson line. I have updated the Research Document for Reuben's parents (now RD-016-02), added some Sources (703-733a). I had to skip adding Source 732 as is too large a file. It's ok, as it's not important at this time.
You will see that some Sources whose numbers end in "a" are just pdfs of the Word document of the same Source number. The pdfs are what I post on my Ancestry.com webpage. Source 733 is pretty interesting, as it is an analysis of Anne Benthall's will (Anne was Thomas' wife).
I have continued to work on Reuben Benthall's family. I have identified his father (RD-016-01), I added lots of new sources (718a thru 729a). I have updated the William Sanders - Patience Benthall Family Tree document to FT-065-02. The reason was that I found some information on William living in Carteret County, NC
William lived next door to Reuben Benthall and Sarah Wade, and he purchased a large amount of Reuben's goods after Reuben's death. This is all explained in Source 729a, which I will also upload as a story (Analysis of Reuben Benthall Will. It's a good story! I also added a story on Reuben Benthall's lands. Enjoy!
July 10, 2024 Update
I added a story about Reuben Benthall taking a 2-year old black boy as an apprentice on September 17, 1771.
July 7, 2024 Update
I am still working on the Owen Sanders line lately. I have updated his father's (David Sanders) Family Tree document (FT-035-01), and his grandfather's (William Sanders) Family Tree document (FT-065-01) and added some Sources to support these documents (704-714).
May 27, 2024 Update
I have been working on Owen Sanders lately, so I have updated his Family Tree document (FT-015-01), added a Story about him, and added some Sources to support his Family Tree document (701-703).
March 4, 2024 Update
Again, lots of changes today! This may take some explaining. I am changing the format of the Family Tree documents. I realized after I updated them last time, that you may have trouble seeing where I made the changes. The revised documents show where I made the changes in Blue Font.
Another change is that the revised Family Tree documents are named "FT-004-01" instead of "FT-004" to show that this is the "01" version of the document. So that's an easy way to see whether you have the latest version of the document.
Another change is that the revised Family Tree documents' names end in a color like "Green", "Yellow", and "Blue". "Green" means I am essentially done with this document. "Yellow" means I have further work to do. "Blue" means that I have hit a brick wall on completing this document.
I am also adding Sources 665 through 680. I am replacing the older versions of the following Family Tree documents (FT-004-01, FT-005-01, FT-007-01, FT-008-01, FT-009-01, FT-012-01, FT-016-01) and a new Research Document (RD-015-01).
January 31, 2024 Update
Again, lots of changes today! I added new Sources (656 - 664). I updated the following Family Tree documents (FT-004, FT-008, FT-049, and FT-050).
February 28, 2024 Update
I have finished the page for our ancestors' military service (at least the ones that I know of as of today's date!). We have ancestors who served in the Revolutionary War, the War of 1812, the Civil War, and others.
I also did some work on the Calendar page to make it finally start working

December 27, 2023 Update
I have added a new page on our ancestors' military service. So far I just have the Revolutionary War patriots on the page. I will continue to work to put in the Civil War veterans and others as I go.
