Wandering Through Our Family's History

Our family has been here in the U. S. since the beginning.  This is our story.

Calendar of Ancestral Events Updates

January 31, 2024

In the Calendar today, I added the birth and death dates for James Edward "Bud" Wilson and Bessie Emily Jackson (and their children except for Mattie Lou Wilson). I added the birth and death dates for James Houston Lewis and Mary Rebecca Brown.

August 29, 2025 Update

Ok, lots of work over the last two months for not very much gain.  I have been continuing to work up the family tree from Keziah Gurley who married Henry "Judge" Sharp.  Keziah's parents were Edwards Gurley and Mary Davis.  I hit the wall on Edwards Gurley's line with John Gurley as his father, but I cannot identify John's father.  So I headed up Mary Davis' line.  Her parents were James Davis and Aley Handley.  BUT I can't get past them.  There are just two many Davises in North Carolina at this time (mid 1700s) and it seems every other one was named James.

I have documented what I know in FT-070-01, which is the Family Tree document for James Davis and Aley Handley.

Also, I had to add a new "Change Log Page" to the website.  I guess I can only have so many "sections" on a webpage, and the previous Change Log had reached the limit of sections.  So I made the original Change Log page #1 and added a page #2 for logging newer changes to the website.

Updated documentation on the website include:

  • RD-024-01 - Davis Family Lineage is a document where I have gathered what I can about the Davises
  • FT-070-01 - James Davis - Aley Handley Family is a new Family Tree document.  There's a lot incomplete in this document, as it has proven impossible to identify either James' or Aley's parents.
  • I am also adding several new Sources (910a thru 910f, and 911 through 916).  I skipped adding Source 914 to the list of Sources as it is a 50 MB file on the history of North Carolina written in 1908 by Samuel Acourt.  I don't know if this will be a valuable source or not in the future, but for now I will hold off on adding it, due to the file size.

Errata

This is a new section I am adding to identify mistakes that others have found in my work.

Aunt Mary Lillis' Death Date

January 31, 2024 - I have uploaded  a new FT-004 which gives Aunt Mary's correct death year of 2023.

About SharpAncestry.org

The Mission of This Website

I (John Sharp) am trying to provide a 1-stop place where family members can access all of the information that I have collected about our ancestors.  I have tried sending the information on USB storage devices and a Facebook page, but maybe this will be easier for everyone.

How does this website work?

This site has a lot of information on it!  There are:

  • Stories that concern a particular event, person, or family
  • Family Tree documents that cover all of the facts I have uncovered about a particular family.  These facts are used to build the story.
  • Research documents where I am trying to determine what the facts are about a particular person, family, or event.  Not everything in the Research documents are necessarily true, but these documents show what I have found.
  • Sources are the documents or images that I have found that back up the information in the Research documents, Family Tree documents, and the Stories.

How does this website work (continued) ?

If you go up to the top of this webpage, you can see the 3 little bars on the top left.  If you click on these 3 bars, you will see every page that is on the website.  There are pages for Stories, for Family Tree Documents, for Research Documents, and Sources (many pages of Sources!).  So you can go to whatever page you want from there.  The Stories Pages might be a good place to start, then if you want to dive in deeper on a family or person, you can go to the Family Tree document or others.  Just keep digging down!
